The Isle of Sprite

Built by Jake, Sean, and Nate: Friday, March 24, 2017

Background

It was the Friday of our spring break in 2017, and Sean and I had spent nearly four hours playing the 404 Challenge, an old Minecraft challenge from Beta 1.7.3. I wanted to do some survival island, and I knew of a good seed we could play on to do so: "sprite". I had played on this world many years previously, and had always enjoyed it. When I suggested it, Sean looked at the version of Minecraft it required, and asked me: "what if we played it as a Tekkit survival island?" After we got it set up and working, the two of us spent the rest of the day playing it. Eventually, Nate joined us around 9:00.

Construction

In order to play it properly, we would need rubber, so we agreed to cheat in one single item: a rubber sapling. After that, everything had to be accomplished without using commands. After several day cycles of not having any spiders spawn for string, which we needed for fishing rods, we finally caught one and had a source of food. One corner of the island was also home to a hole that led straight down, and we eventually began to mine through it. We encountered a cave, and after a while, we had plenty of resources, but tragedy struck when I accidentally fell in lava and lost a significant amount of gold, which Sean needed to begin constructing machinery.

Telkit

In August 2024, the decision was made to make a copy of the Isle of Sprite on the main server. While a direct copy via a WorldEdit schematic was out of the question due to the version difference of over a decade, a manual rebuild was performed. The island itself is not the same shape, but the house, cave, and machinery were all reconstructed as accurately as possible.

The primary complication was the change in what mods were available. Several mods from Tekkit are still around, such as Iron Chests, and other mods, such as RedPower and Equivalent Exchange, have modernized replacements. On the other hand, Buildcraft and IndustrialCraft, which were the core tech mods of Tekkit, have no equivalents for Minecraft 1.20.1.

In their absence, Ad Astra replaced the oil, Mekanism replaced the wiring, Solar Flux Reborn replaced the solar panels, and Thermal Expansion replaced most of the machinery.
